While some people opt to fast on a daily basis, others only fast a few days a week – there are lots of intermittent fasting plans to choose from, but fasting isn’t the right option for everyone.
Dr Michael Mosley explained how intermittent fasting can work, he said: “There are two main methods we incorporate at The Fast 800, which can be utilised together depending on your lifestyle.”
He explained that these methods are “the 5:2 approach where you restrict your calorie intake to 800 calories for two days a week, and eat a healthy diet for the other five days; and ‘Time Restricted Eating (TRE)’ which encourages you to extend your normal night-time ‘fast’ by eating an early dinner, or skipping breakfast, to condense your eating period into an eight, 10 or 12-hour window”.
In terms of the foods that it’s best to eat, Dr Mosely explained that: “Ultimately, it comes down to balance of protein, fibre and healthy fats, which is essentially the Mediterranean Diet.”
