Yumi Stynes gave no indication that there was trouble in her marriage when she appeared on a recent episode of ABC’s Just Between Us.

In the confessional series, presumably filmed months prior, the 46-year-old TV and radio presenter discusses her love for her family and husband Martin Bendeler.

Idyllic scenes show the family cooking and eating together, with no sense of any fracture in the relationship between Yumi and Martin, who she calls a ‘beautiful dad’.

In the video, the mother of four, who has not publicly revealed her son’s name, says of the five-year-old: ‘Five years ago I had my first son. He is just a little slice of heaven and I can’t get enough of him.

‘I love the way he is so influenced by his older sisters, and me of course, and his beautiful dad. And he’s just a unique character’.

On Friday, however, Yumi announced that she has separated from her second husband and the father of two of her children, Martin, after nine years of marriage.

She broke down in tears live on KIIS FM’s 3pm Pick-Up on Tuesday as she shared heartbreaking details of the couple’s split.

Stynes, who has moved out of the marital home and into her own apartment, said it was daunting having to start her life over again as a single mother for the second time.

While she did not reveal why they broke up, she hinted it wasn’t mutual after appearing to suggest her ex changed the locks to their house.

The former Channel [V] host married Bendeler in 2012 and they welcomed a daughter and a son together.

She was previously married to musician Ben Ely, with whom she shares two older children, from 2000 to 2008.

‘I’m going through a separation at the moment and there’s kids involved and my ex is involved I don’t want to say anything that hurts these people,’ she said through tears.

‘I have had to find an apartment, had to move my stuff, all my crap is in boxes and bags… I had to change my address, throw out the keys that don’t work anymore…’

Stynes said it had been an intense few weeks and she was still coming to terms with becoming a single parent again.

‘It’s been a lot. I spent the weekend moving and I feel like I’m starting my new life now as a single mum. Here I am again,’ she wept.

Stynes said she wasn’t ready to tell the full story of the split, but expects she will still be processing her grief for another year.

‘I have hundreds and thousands of words to say but I don’t think I’m ready yet,’ she told listeners.

‘Break-ups aren’t over quickly. I’ll probably be in this process for another year… I probably will be up and down in the future.’

Stynes’ radio co-host Kate Langbroek praised her for her ‘strength’ and ‘courage’.

‘Your strength is second to none and I’ve been in awe of you through this… It’s so courageous to make a change. It’s bloody hard and courageous,’ Langbroek said.

Stynes and Bendeler wed in 2012, after she proposed to him on February 29, which as a leap day is traditionally the day women can propose marriage to men.

They share two children, daughter Mercy, six, and a five-year-old son whose name has not been revealed but whom Stynes refers to as ‘Man Baby’.

She also has two teenage children, Anouk, 19, and Dee Dee, 17, from her marriage to Ben Ely of the Australian rock band Regurgitator.

Stynes wrote an article for the ABC last year about how to stay friends with an ex-partner based on her experience co-parenting with Ely.

She encouraged people to ‘take time apart when it first happens, encourage mutual respect and redraw the boundaries of your relationship’.

‘Breaking up “well” isn’t something you think about when you’re in the flush of new love,’ she wrote.

‘And when it all falls apart, staying friendly isn’t necessary – unless you share something vital, like a business, all your friends, a creative project or, in our case, children.’
