Today Extra anchor Belinda Russell has had yet another Hollywood star slide into her Instagram DMs – just days after Jennifer Lopez’s ex Alex Rodriguez started the trend.

While hosting Nine’s morning show on Tuesday, the married mother of three, 42, revealed actor and comedian David Spade had privately contacted her.

The 56-year-old Saturday Night Live star’s clearly tongue-in-cheek Instagram message read: ‘Hey, it’s A-Rod. New phone.’

Revelations A-Rod had reached out to a little-known Australian TV host made global headlines after Belinda revealed all on Friday.

David clearly pays attention to the media and made sure to  get in a joke (and a slice of the PR pie).

Elsewhere on Tuesday, Belinda insisted A-Rod’s platonic DM was ‘blown out of proportion.’

She then appeared to defend A-Rod over how innocent the message was.

‘Why can’t a grown man send a female message when it’s completely innocent and not creepy?’

Belinda was right not to suspect any romantic intent, as representatives for the New York Yankees legend later revealed the message was actually sent by his daughters.

Natasha, 16, and Elle, 13, are said to be ‘big fans’ of Belinda’s dancing videos, which she posts to her social media feed.

Belinda first made the revelation on Friday’s episode.

‘I woke up this morning, checking the socials and in my requests there was a message from Alex Rodriguez. As in A-Rod. As in J.Lo’s ex,’ she told co-host Richard Wilkins.

Today Extra then showed a screenshot of the direct message, in which A-Rod simply wrote: ‘Great feed!!!’

‘All I can say is… he likes great content, Dickie. He just said great feed!’ Belinda said, downplaying her celebrity encounter.

‘I went, “This can’t be real,” so I tapped on it and [his account] is verified,’ she added.

‘If you count [there’s] four million followers. Give me a shout-out, A-Rod, and get me some followers!’

Later in the program, a somewhat embarrassed Belinda joked that A-Rod was ‘going to unfollow me now because this is so uncool. He just likes the videos that I do.’
