WHO triggers emergency over new virus outbreak with 50% case fatality rate – 129 dead

    The Democratic Republic of the Congo has delcared an outbreak of meningitis. 

    Approximately 261 cases have been reported in the Tshopo Province where there have also been 129 deaths. 

    An initial emergency team has now been dispatched to the region and will be supported by the WHO.
