Johnson and Johnson revealed on Wednesday the preliminary data from a study of 17 people.

The results offer new hope for the efficacy of booster shots in fighting the coronavirus pandemic.

The vaccine breakthrough follows more and more countries opening up their vaccine hoards for booster shots.

According to Johnson and Johnson, a second dose of the J&J vaccine offers a ninefold increase in antibody production.

The results were achieved after a second jab was administered six months after the first.

The increase in antibodies was much higher compared to a second shot just 28 days after the first dose.

Unlike the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, the J&J jab is a single-dose vaccine.
