Update your iPhone NOW! Apple releases iOS 14.6 to address more than 49 security issues that let hackers control devices or leak users’ personal information

    • Apple is urging users to update devices with the new iOS 14.6
    • The new operating system includes fixes for more than 49 security issues
    • iOS 14.6 also includes updates for AirTags, Apple Card and podcasts

Apple is encouraging iOS users to update their iPhone or iPad with the lasts software to address a number of vulnerabilities.

iOS 14.6 patches more than 49 issues, including flaws that let hackers gain control over devices or leak users’ personal information.

The release is not all doom and gloom, but also includes new features for AirTags, Apple Card and podcast subscriptions.

The security issues seem to be the main event of the update, as the tech giant has made iOS 14.6 available to all devices made in the past five years.

However, the notification in ‘Software Update’ does not cite the new iOS includes security fixes, but just shares the fun features it will release.

Apple rarely announces issues with its systems that could be used by bad actors in malicious activity, but the tech giant is open to receiving reports from others who find a security of privacy vulnerability.

‘For our customers’ protection, Apple doesn’t disclose, discuss, or confirm security issues until an investigation has occurred and patches or releases are available,’ the tech giant shared in a statement.

The firm has not gone into detail about the security issues, but lists ‘updates to WebKit’ among features at risk.

WebKit is the engine that powers Apple’s Safari browser and has been hit with a number of vulnerabilities this year.

In January, the firm rolled out iOS 14.4 to fix an issue that allowed hackers to remotely access devices ‘to cause arbitrary code execution,’ Apple stated.

And the latest threat seems to be similar to the January vulnerability.

‘Processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to arbitrary code execution,’ reads Apple’s support page.

‘Multiple memory corruption issues were addressed with improved memory handling.’

iOS 14.6 also adds support for Apple Card Family, which allows up to five people to use the same Apple Card.

The release is not all doom and gloom, but also includes new features for AirTags, Apple Card and podcast subscriptions. The security issues seem to be the main event of the update, as the tech giant has made iOS 14.6 available to all devices made in the past five years

And users now have access to podcast subscriptions for channels and individual shows.

Another new feature comes for AirTags, a tracking device, which allows users to add an email address in place of a phone number.

And the update now shows just part of the phone number.

The new operating system will also let users, for the first time, unlock their iPhone after a restart using only their voice.

The previous method required users put in their passcode in order to unlock the handset.
