High pressures is set to keep spells of sunshine sweeping over the nation during September, following weeks of drizzly conditions. Brian Gaze, a forecaster at Weather Outlook, predicted potential highs of 30C hitting the south if “very warm upper level air” arrives over the next couple of weeks. He said: “Mostly dry weather is set to continue into the early part of September.
“Beyond that there are signs of things beginning to change a little.
“A minority of the GEFS runs are forecasting very warm upper level air towards the end of the 16 day period.
“If they turn out correct we may not be done with 30C in the south this year.
“It is something to keep an eye on in the coming days.”
At the moment, the latest temperature maps from WXCHARTS show south-eastern regions nudging towards highs of 30C at the start of September.
On Thursday, September 9, Canterbury, Gillingham and Maidstone in Kent could bask in 26C.
Brighton, London, Luton and Cambridge could see 24C, while Doncaster in Yorkshire also basks in highs of 22C.
The BBC’s long-range forecast also predicted a “potentially warmer pattern” arriving during September.

“Around mid-September, there is the greatest chances for a more progressive pattern to develop.
“This would see more westerly winds bringing Atlantic fronts in quicker and more frequently.
“This is still an unsettled pattern, but temperatures will become much more changeable day-to-day and there is a better chance of higher winds at times.
“Hurricane activity may make our risk scenario more likely, which is for stronger high pressure to the west of Europe or overhead, leading to a drier and potentially warmer pattern, somewhat ironically.”
The Met Office added mixed conditions could sweep over the UK next month, with high pressure still bringing warm and sunny spells.
The monthly forecast said: “High pressure is likely to dominate through the end of August and the start of September, resulting in fine and settled weather across the UK.
“This will bring variable amounts of cloud, sunny spells, a few light showers, and some fog patches overnight, which clear during early morning.
“It looks increasingly likely that largely settled conditions will persist through much of the rest of this period, though perhaps weak frontal systems bringing light rain and showers at times.
“Winds likely to be light to moderate for most, fresher along the east coasts, and breezier towards the far south, where it may feel cooler. It is likely to be rather warm in the west but cool in the east below any persistent cloud.”
