This morning, Prince Charles, 72, shared a throwback photo of himself, his late father, the Queen and Princess Anne at the Windsor’s Scottish retreat, Balmoral. The black and white photo seems to have been widely appreciated by Royal fans.

Clarence House’s official Instagram account hit a whopping 59,156 likes on the 70-year-old photo.

On Twitter, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall’s account received an additional 4,418 likes.

The post was captioned: “Taken 70 years ago this month, this photo shows The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles and Princess Anne enjoying a warm summer day in the Clarence House garden.”

One reader said in the Express.co.uk comment section: “He will be missed.

“He was certainly the glue which held them together.”

One Instagram user wrote “RIP Prince Philip” and added the flags of Scotland, England, the United Kingdom, Greece and Denmark.

    “So heartwarming,” another said.

One Instagram commenter even suggested the image could help explain why the Prince of Wales “loves” Clarence House.

They asked: “Is this why Charles loves Clarence House because this was his real family home?”

The Queen and the late Duke of Edinburgh were married for 70 years.

In that time, the Royal couple had four children.

Their two eldest, Prince Charles and Princess Anne, are seen in the Prince of Wales’ photo of Clarence House.

Their other two children, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, are reportedly expected to head up the Firm while many pop up to visit Her Majesty at Balmoral.

The Duke of York, 61, and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, 61, have already joined the Queen north of the border.

In the coming weeks, Elizabeth is expected to welcome many members of the Royal Family to her Aberdeenshire castle.
