The Devil’s Hour is the latest thriller to arrive on Amazon Prime Video in time for Halloween and it promises to leave viewers with goosebumps. The series stars Call the Midwife actress Jessica Raine as Lucy Chambers, a mother who wakes up from a disturbing dream at the same time every night. Jessica said during a Q&A after an exclusive screening that she felt creeped out whilst staying in a big house during filming.
The series follows Lucy Chambers, a social worker who lives at home with her young son, Isaac (Benjamin Chivers).
Her son’s strange behaviour concerns Lucy and she has taken him to a number of therapists to try and get to the bottom of the mystery.
He sleepwalks and claims he can see people who are not there, which leaves Lucy feeling uneasy.
Actress Jessica said while she was filming for the series, she stayed at a big house, completely alone.
She explained: “Production very kindly put me up in a house, I was commuting weekly and I assumed my family would come and stay.

“So we got a nice big house which is incredible, and they ended up not coming because I was just always working.
“So I ended up just rattling around in this house that I was unfamiliar with and it was not good during this shoot.
“I lost the ability to sleep, I’m not a method actor but that freaked me out, and I did wake up at 3.28 and I was like ‘This is too close’.
“I did not like that, I’m not going back there.”
Jessica was disturbed by the fact she was experiencing the same sleep issue as her character during the filming process.
After the presenters joked about having to wake up at 3.30 every morning for work, she said: “In this world, it’s not good to wake up at 3.33am.
“Our showrunner and writer said it’s most similar to 666, it’s about the time when the spirits come out.
“It’s a show which is very scary and dark but it has some humour to it, too.”
She opened up about working with children in the series and how there was something special about including them in thrillers.
She added: “It’s their innocence, I really do believe they have access to something we don’t, I just love it.
“This was Benji’s first job and he’s such a find, he’s just phenomenal. When he plays Isaac he just becomes very blank and he’s very well-adjusted.
“My main concern for him was he had a great time on this shoot and I know that he did, he was really excited to be there.”
During the Q&A session, creator Tom Moran explained whether The Devil’s Hour was a real concept.
“The belief that it is real, I didn’t make that up,” he said.
“If you are asking me if it’s a real thing? If the threshold between the world of the living and the dead really is thinner between the hours of three and four? I don’t think I’m qualified to answer that question.”
