Tamzin Outhwaite has revealed that she views alcohol as a ‘hindrance’, with her two-day hangovers and ‘beer fear’ leaving her determined to quit drinking.
The former Eastenders star, 50, is not a stranger to making the most of nights out with friends such as Holly Willoughby, Emma Bunton and Angela Griffin, but has admitted it fills her with ‘fear’ when they speak on the phone the next day about what happened.
Speaking to The Sun, Tamzin said: ‘I’ve thought about quitting drinking for a long time and it feels like now is the time.

‘It’s a waste of my health and a waste of my time, because I’m recovering for something that was brilliant for a short amount of time, and was it that brilliant?’
The actress believes that alcohol has got ‘so much’ to answer for – and that the decisions made under the influence are sometimes ‘not right’.
She has previously admitted to the Blank podcast that she finds her sober spells push her to live a healthier and fitness-orientated lifestyle.

‘When I’m not drinking I do feel better. I love being with my mates and having a drink and vibing with each other.
‘But I’m very aware now that I can’t recover very well the next day. It takes longer as you get older,’ Tamzin said.
The Masked Dancer performer, who shocked viewers last month when she was unmasked as the Scarecrow, has followed in the footsteps of her younger siblings Kes, 49, and Jake, 41, who are also sober.
She believes she doesn’t need drink either, with people thinking ‘she’s off her face’ when in reality, she’s just having a great time sober.

‘I think now the generation coming up seem to be very focused, ambitious — and clean.

‘Everyone’s aware of the consequences of it, as the generations above have shown them,’ she said, also noting that she is full of wisdom about how she should be living, but just needs to ‘put it into practise’.
The star also told The Sun recently that she has ‘never been happier’ than she is currently with documentary-maker Tom Child, 30.
Tamzin, who rocketed to fame as Melanie Owens in Eastenders back in the nineties, also has daughters Florence, 12, and Marnie, 8, from her marriage to Miranda actor Tom Ellis.

Tamzin was also branded a ‘hero’ earlier this month when she saved three children from drowning in a swimming pool.
The quick-thinker plunged into the water fully-clothed ‘without a second’s doubt’ before the other parents could react, as she rescued the children who were all under 10-years-of-age.
One witness told The Sun following the incident: ‘Tamzin is a hero. She leapt into the water without hesitation. It was very dramatic.’
The source continued to praise mum-of-two’s quick reactions, saying she was the first to jump in and help the youngsters.
They added that she had reacted ‘so fast’ that the three children were ‘all safe’ by the time anybody else had reached the pool.
