It followed Harry and Meghan’s incendiary comments to the US talk show legend, during an interview in March. The Duchess of Sussex alleged racism within the Royal Family and revealed her mental health struggles.

During an interview with the Daily Telegraph Edward and Sophie were asked if they’d watched the incendiary interview.

The Duke jokingly replied: “Oprah who?”

His wife chipped in adding: “Yes, what interview?”

She later added: “You know, if you’re not into chat shows, there’s no reason why you should know who she is.

“Certainly not in this country, anyway.”

The remarks caught the attention of Omid Scobie, a royal journalist closely linked to the Sussexes.

He shared photographs of Sophie visiting the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in Johannesburg in 2013.

The reporter posted the two pictures along with the caption “Throwback Friday”.

“‘The war against misinformation by the media is a joke if you get to mislead people the same way.”

Another added: “Are you going to give the full context to this or continue to stir the pot?”

However other Twitter users criticised the Earl and Countess for their joke about Oprah.

One posted: “Guess she can stop pretending she has no idea who Oprah is now.”

A second said: “Wow just a while ago I read something where she claimed she didn’t know Oprah. Well, well, well this is very interesting.”

During the interview with Ms Winfrey Meghan claimed “concerns and conversations” were raised within the Royal Family about Archie’s skin tone, ahead of his birth.

Harry confirmed the account adding: “At the time, it was awkward, I was a bit shocked.”

However the Sussexes’ declined to say which royal had made the remark.

Buckingham Palace released a statement on behalf of the Queen expressing regret over Meghan’s difficulties.

However it added “some recollections may vary” about the events Harry and Meghan described.
