Panelling can make a large room feel cosy and warm as well as making a small space feel larger. It can be incorporated into both a modern and traditional home which is why it is so popular. Amy Evans, 31, a student nurse and mum-of-two from Doncaster, has shared her DIY panelling journey.
“Once all the panels were on the wall, I used caulk to make sure there were no gaps between the wood and the walls.”
Amy then let it dry before applying primer to the wood and painting it.
She added: “After this, I applied the dodo rail to finish off and again primed the wood and painted it. It’s just a case of getting your head around working out the angles to cut but once you’ve got it it’s pretty easy to follow.”
Amy, who is a mum of two young boys, worked with her partner in the evenings to get the work done.
“I love that we have done it ourselves instead of getting a builder in. It means the money can go to other uses such as the wedding.
“I feel proud that we’ve done it ourselves instead of having builders in and have the satisfaction that we did it ourselves.
“A builder would probably have charged at least £500, so I feel good that we didn’t have to spend that much and the money can be put to other uses.”
