Smart motorway safety cameras took two years after first recommendation to be rolled out

Transport Minister Baroness Vere added no time limit was ever given for stopped vehicle detection technology to be rolled out.

She said stopped vehicle detection was now being retrofitted despite this first being promised five years ago.

Ms Vere added: “It should be said that all lane running motorways were designed to operate safely without [SVD].

“So whilst we absolutely are proceeding at pace, I have accelerated the rollout of SVD.
