However, moss can quickly become a nuisance if it starts to grow in the wrong place like on patios and paths. Moss left to grow on paths and patios could potentially be dangerous in the colder months when it turns slippery and wet. Luckily, fans of cleaning and lifestyle influencer Mrs Hinch, whose full name is Sophie Hinchliffe, have shared their household hack for getting rid of moss.

The cleaning and lifestyle influencer has more than 4.5 million followers on Instagram and often shares her garden and home tips online.

Fans of hers have taken to social media in recent years to share their own hacks for solving common household problems.

On one such group, Facebook user Ayden Grobler asked: “Can anyone recommend an algae moss/path cleaner?

“I would normally use a jet wash but I don’t have power or water nearby.”

These compounds are found in some of the most common clothing stains such as pasta sauces, bike oil and meat grease.

Other suggestions from Mrs Hinch fans included using Wet and Forget, cheap bleach, Jeyes Fluid, washing up liquid and white vinegar.

Caren Davy-martin commented: “Wet and forget is brilliant, I get mine from Amazon or Costco.

Morag Irvine agreed and said: “Wet and forget will clean it. Tracy Masters also wrote: “Definitely Wet and Forget. So easy.”

Deborah Finlay replied: “Lidi cheap bleach. Put it down raw and leave it. [It will] be dead in a few hours.

“Brush and wash job done. Power-washing takes the sand out and then you get weeds.”

Lorraine Edge suggested: “Scrub off the thick moss. If you have no lawn or borders, put bleach and washing up liquid in water on the path and a good stiff yard brush and scrub it in. Bleach will stop algae.”

Carol Scott said: “I got told to put Dettol in a bucket of water, throw over the area and leave it overnight.

“The next day it should be all brown and then hose off. Haven’t tried it yet but seemingly it works.”

Gaynor Tabreham commented: “Spray moss with white vinegar.”

Sue Stewart replied: “Jeyes fluid in a watering can works well.”

Kerry Atkinson said: “Washing up liquid, white vinegar and table salt in a spray bottle.

“In a few days, you will be able to just brush it all and it will be gone.”
