The budding romance between Matildas captain Sam Kerr and her American soccer star girlfriend Kristie Mewis seems to be heating up.

Kristie, 30, shared a photo to Instagram on Thursday of herself in a bikini kissing Sam, 27, as they soaked up the sun in a swimming pool.

The Aussie looked smitten as she wrapped her arms around her lover, who sat in her lap as they relaxed on a unicorn-shaped floatie.

‘Kerrching,’ Kristie captioned the picture, which was soon flooded with thousands of likes and comments.

Kristie, a midfielder for Team USA and the Houston Dash, wore in a black criss-cross bikini which highlighted her athletic figure. 

Their latest loved-up holiday snap comes after Sam confirmed their new romance earlier this month.

The brunette sports star went public with their relationship in a post on Instagram – just days after they sparked rumours of a romance by sharing a tender embrace on the field at the Tokyo Games.

The football stars sparked romance rumours at the Tokyo Olympics, after Kristie was seen comforting Sam following the Matildas’ devastating defeat.

After losing 4-3 to the USA during a bronze-medal match, Kristie took a moment to sit with Sam on the field. 

At one stage, Kristie nuzzled her face into Sam’s shoulder as she wrapped an arm around her back in return.

Speculation about the nature of the duo’s relationship quickly spread across social media – with more fuel being added to the fire when it was revealed that Sam had ended her seven-year romance with Chicago Red Stars player Nikki Stanton.

Sam ended her relationship with Nikki, 30, in the lead-up to the Tokyo Olympics, The Daily Telegraph recently reported.  

She reportedly told friends she’d simply ‘fallen out of love’ with Nikki, whom she had met in 2014 while playing soccer in the U.S.

Their relationship couldn’t withstand the long distance, with Nikki living stateside while Sam is now primarily based in the UK.

Sources close to both Nikki and Sam confirmed their split to the newspaper, and both women have unfollowed each other on social media. 

‘Sam was the one who ended things and Nikki was obviously upset but she is healing,’ a friend told the publication.

Meanwhile, a source revealed Sam was in good spirits in the Tokyo athletes’ village, saying: ‘If there is any sadness around the break up it certainly wasn’t evident.’

Rumours of their split first emerged in June, during the Matildas’ pre-Olympic team camp in Sweden.
