A MiG-31 fighter jet was scrambled to escort a US B-1B bomber over the Sea of Japan. The bomber jet did not breach Russia’s border. This comes just days after a US destroyer attempted to violated Russian territorial waters.

According to Russia’s National Defense Management Center, an aerial target was detected approaching the border.

A MiG from the Eastern Military District’s air defence system was soon dispatched.

The ministry said in a statement: “A MiG-31 fighter was scrambled to identify the aerial target and prevent it from violating the Russian state border.”

Russian government insisted it acted within full compliance with the international rules of using the airspace.

This is a breaking story, more to follow…
