Graham Smith told Express.co.uk that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interviews since leaving the Royal Family have fundamentally changed the way people view the monarchy, particularly in younger generations. The Republic CEO added that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be part of royal coverage for many years to come despite leaving the institution in March 2020.
Mr Smith said: “It is difficult to say what the longer-term damage is but I think it [the interviews] have fundamentally changed the way people see the royals, particularly among younger people.
“I think that all the stories around Prince Philip’s funeral and the difficulties the brothers were having and the stories about the unveiling of the Diana memorial, various other stories keep coming up.
“Firstly, Meghan and Harry are not going away, they are still going to be part of royal coverage for many years to come.
“[They will be] a continuous reminder of these accusations that came up, a continuous reminder that princes can just walk away and do something else.

“And a continuous contrast between Harry and Meghan on one hand and William and Kate on the other.
“So I think that is going to be a big problem.”
Republic is an organisation that campaigns for the monarchy to be abolished and Queen Elizabeth II to be replaced with an elected, democratic head of state.
Last week, Entertainment Tonight’s Hallie Stephens and royal commentator Katie Nicholl discussed the reports that Meghan Markle broke down in tears prior to her interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Ms Nicholl added: “The Times newspaper has reported that the Duchess allegedly bullied two members of her household staff out of Kensington Palace and made the life of the third member of staff almost unbearable.
“Those are the allegations, they are strongly refuted by the Duchess of Sussex who says she didn’t bully anyone out of the Palace.”
Ms Stephens continued: “In the new Apple TV docu-series, Harry co-created with Oprah Winfrey ‘The Me You Can’t See’ the Duke of Sussex recalls the ordeal and the headlines about his wife revealing that she actually broke down crying one night due to the ‘combined effort of the firm and the media to smear her’.”
Prince Harry told the documentary: “I was woken up in the middle of the night to her crying in her pillow because she doesn’t want to wake me up because I’m already carrying too much that’s heartbreaking.
“I held her we talked she cried and she cried and she cried.”
