With the two now stepping back as senior royals, one expert has warned the Queen could’ve used the two to appeal to a new generation. Indeed, Catherine Haddon, historian and constitutional expert at the Institute for Government claimed the pair were a valuable bridge to ethnic minorities. Not only could the Sussexes have appealed to the younger generation but their loss has hindered the Royal Family’s soft power and brand.

Speaking to NBC News, Mr Haddon said: “Particularly with Harry and Meghan, there was also an element of how much they were appealing to different people, particularly ethnic minorities, and how much that could have helped the monarchy reform or change or appeal to a wider group of people.

“It’s not only about the reaction in this country but also about how much it affected the royals appeal in places where soft power and the brand of the monarchy is important in diplomatic terms.”

According to polling from YouGov, young people have begun to change their opinion of the Royal Family.

In a poll from the pollster in May, 41 percent of 18-24-year-olds now say Britain should have an elected head of state.

Just 31 percent would like to see the Monarchy continue, the poll of 4,997 adults conducted between March 12 to May 7, suggested.

In 2019, 46 percent were in favour of the Monarchy while just 26 preferred an elected head of state.

Since their departure from the Firm, Harry and Meghan have signed lucrative deals with Netflix, Spotify and Apple TV+.

Meghan has also released her new book where she spoke of special moments shared with Harry and her son Archie.

The Duchess also revealed the book, title ‘The Bench’ is a “love story” during an interview.

She is the Queen’s 11th great-grandchild and now eighth in line to the throne.
