Mr Trump’s former senior adviser Jason Miller claimed that when you are a member of the Royal Family you need to “check some of your thoughts and ambitions at the door”. He added: “Number one rule of being a royal is don’t disrespect the Queen.”

Of the Duchess of Sussex, Mr Miller told the Sun: “I think she should have more respect for the institution of the Royals and I think that when you marry into the Royal Family there’s a certain sense of decorum that I think that you’re signing up for that you need to check some of your thoughts and ambitions at the door.

“I think that when you have the Queen you have to be respectful of the Queen.”

Meghan and Prince Harry quit royal duties last year for a new life in America.

The couple are now living in California with their two children Archie and Lili.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex hit out at the royals in their controversial Oprah Winfrey interview in March.

They made a series of explosive claims about the monarchy in the tell-all TV interview.

But the royals made clear they did not agree with all of the Sussexes’ version of events.

A statement issued by Buckingham Palace highlighted how “recollections may vary”.

7.40am update: Queen to split time between Windsor and London

The Queen will resume hosting events at Buckingham Palace to show taxpayers their money was “well-spent” on renovating the London residence, royal expert Nick Bullen said.

Speaking to Royally US, Mr Bullen said: “I think she’ll definitely be at Buckingham Palace a lot more.

“She loves Windsor Castle, she’d want to be at Windsor Castle but it’s only 40 minutes down the road from Buckingham Palace. It’s really close.

“Buckingham Palace is the seat of the monarchy, there was a huge £350-360 million refurbishment going on there.

“So she’ll want to show people that money is being well-spent. You’ll see her back at Buckingham Palace for all the investitures, having meetings, hosting dinners, staying there occasionally.”

7.35am update: Harry reveals Philip’s characteristically blunt words as he headed to Afghanistan

Prince Harry has told how the Duke of Edinburgh sent him off to war in Afghanistan with the heartfelt plea: “Make sure you come back alive.”

He reveals the moving moment with Prince Philip, who served with distinction in the Second World War, in a BBC documentary due to air this week.

Harry said: “Going off to Afghanistan, he was very-matter-of-fact and just said, ‘Make sure you come back alive.’

“Then, when I came back, there wasn’t a deep level of discussion, more a case of, ‘Well, you made it. How was it?’

“That’s how he was. He was very much a listener; he sort of set the scene for you to be able to share as much as you wanted to share. But he would never probe.”

7.30am update: Meghan and Harry’s Time cover brutally mocked as ‘a bunch of old dudes’ chose Sussexes

A royal commentator has dismissed claims from fans of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle that their inclusion in the top Time 100 list shows they are popular in America.

Royal blogger Kinsey Schofield discussed Harry and Meghan being named among Time magazine’s most influential people with GB News’ Mark Dolan on Saturday evening.

Ms Schofield suggested that the inclusion was not a popularity contest, pointing out that no-one “voted for or chose” the cover stars of the magazine.

Instead, she claimed that it was “just a bunch of old dudes” who made the decision.
