Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has labelled Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw ‘a disgrace to the club’ for their performances against Liverpool last week – in typically brutal fashion. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided to stick with the defensive duo at Tottenham as part of a back-five, in the hope that they would respond in the right fashion in north London but Keane was not letting them off the hook.

He was absent from the Sky Sports studio last Sunday and was handed the floor by Kelly Cates ahead of kick-off against Spurs, an opportunity Keane was not prepared to let pass him by…

“Maguire and Shaw last week, they were a disgrace,” he fumed.

“An absolute disgrace to the club and these are established international players.

“[Aaron] Wan-Bissaka, I don’t even think Palace would take him back now. He’s not good enough for Manchester United.

“And these guys are on the back of a great European Championships with England, so they have turned up before in big matches.

“But recently, Shaw has fallen back into his old traps from a few years ago.

“Again, I’m fed up of all these players apologising after games, Maguire ‘we need to come together as a group’, well no, you need to sort your game out.”

A host of United players used their social media accounts to issue apologies after the game, something that also insulted Keane.

“It was an embarrassing performance,” he added.

“I heard Bryan Robson speak during the week, who was obviously a great player for Manchester United and a man full of courage, and he felt that the players gave up which I think is the biggest insult you can give to a professional footballer. Unacceptable.

“There was a lot of talk coming out this week, a lot of rubbish from players, apologies left right and centre. It’s no good.

“It’s all rubbish all that kind of nonsense coming out from players and team Rashford and Maguire. Fernandes a few weeks ago when he missed a penalty against Villa.

“Just turn up and give everything you’ve got for the club and they didn’t do that last week. This idea of players giving is the worst insult for a professional football player.”
