The RMT strikers are staging their latest walkout in Glasgow station over pay and job conditions. Holding protest signs and RMT red flags, angry protesters stormed Glasgow station and pushed back the police who are visibly outnumbered. Unable to stop the furious strikers, police officers give up and stay away from the protests.
Newspaper journalist Conrad Landin who shared the footage said: “Police attempt to stop the demo progressing through Central Station before giving up.”
Today is the first of two planned days of rail strikes amid the ongoing pay dispute with Network Rail.
Scotland’s railway traffic is expected to be disrupted throughout the day, with only 20 percent of ScotRail services running on Saturday between 07:30 and 18:30 in the central belt, Borders and Fife.
No trains will run on other parts of the ScotRail railway network. The train that are running will be operational at reduced capacity, with only two trains circulating per hour on most lines.
The RMT protests continue as the rail union rejected a five percent pay rise from Network Rail.
Up to 400,000 members could join Saturday’s strike, RMT’s regional organiser for Scotland, Gordon Martin, told the BBC’s Good Morning Scotland programme.
He said: “This is a significant number of workers. While there are pay freezes being imposed on them, the bosses and the bankers are getting income tax reductions and bonuses.
