Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s sister, Rachel Johnson, has made fun of GB News’s viewers on Good Morning Britain this week. On Monday, the author and journalist described the channel’s audience as “wingnuts” for supposedly wanting to bring an end to the coronavirus lockdown restrictions. Ms Johnson was asked if she was ever in favour of lockdowns.

She replied: “Look I don’t want to come across as a mad GB News wingnut.”

Susanna Reid then asked: “Why did you suddenly go (change), was there a voice in your ear?”

Ms Johnson added: “I haven’t got anything in my ear, it was my own good angel saying, ‘Don’t go there!’

“Look, I think that the country has been very tolerant and obedient.

“It is now obvious that we have the great vaccine shield.

“It’s time we learn to live with the virus as this Government has said.”

Ms Johnson’s comments came following the launch of the new British news channel.

It is not the first time the journalist has stirred controversy.

Ms Johnson was a member of the Conservative Party from 2008 to 2011, but later joined the Liberal Democrats in the run up to the 2017 general election because of the Conservative support for Brexit.

Despite being the sister of a Brexiteer, Ms Johnson has continued to fiercely oppose Britain’s withdrawal from the bloc.

In 2019, journalist Nick Ferrari fired into Ms Johnson during a blistering tirade as he told her to finally accept the will of the people.

Speaking on Sky News’ The Pledge in 2017, Mr Ferrari used YouGov figures to support his argument.

He said: “I was almost celebrating because I thought, at last, we were going to get through one of your conversations and we wouldn’t touch on the ‘B’ word, no not Boris, Brexit.

“Can I just take it from you, that the YouGov poll this week says that you are in such a minority.

“Courtesy of YouGov, 45 percent of people are so-called hard-leavers.

“23 percent of people are what you call re-leavers, they voted to remain, they now believe the Government has a duty to carry out Brexit.

“68 percent of the population supports the damn process.

“Will you now just give it away Rachel, just tell me you will give it away.”

Despite the figures, Ms Johnson refused to accept the Brexit result as she described herself as a “hard-Remainer”.

She snapped back: “I am known as a hard-Remainer because I am not going to just be one of these people that just assumes that Brexit is like death and taxes.

“You have just got to lie back and expect it to happen.

“It’s not going to happen. Nick, somebody has got to stand up for the young of this country, whose futures are going to be made poorer by this.”
