This year will mark the first time the bereaved Monarch has celebrated her official birthday parade without her husband. However, Her Majesty will not be alone as it is believed she will be supported by her cousin, Prince Edward.
The Mail on Sunday revealed the Queen’s “plus one” is likely to be her first cousin so that she won’t be so alone.
The Mail reported: “For this year’s Trooping the Colour on June 12, the Queen will be accompanied by her cousin, the Duke of Kent.”
However, it is not the first time the Duke has filled in for Philip, as he attended the 2013 ceremony when Philip was recovering from surgery.
Last year, the public event was cancelled due to Covid restrictions but a greatly scaled back ceremony was held in Windsor castle in its stead.
The celebrations this year are likely to remain at Windsor castle as the UK will not yet have fully emerged from lockdown.
Speaking on the Royal Rota, show hosts Chris Ship and Lizzie Robinson, speculated that this year’s celebration might be “slightly bigger than it was last year.”
Palace sources have also revealed that the Queen will aim to increase her personal engagements in the coming months.
Last weekend, the Queen put on a brave face as she stepped out onto the deck of the HMS Queen Elizabeth for a royal engagement in the aftermath, on May 21.

“They have all been really keen to be able to do that.
“We will see more of them and that will include the Queen.”
