Production on The Masked Singer is thrown into chaos amid Sydney’s Covid outbreak as the studio audience is dropped in favour of virtual crowds

The coronavirus pandemic has once again impacted filming of The Masked Singer, after last year’s season was interrupted by an outbreak on set.

Production company Warner Bros. has scrapped plans for a live studio audience at Carriageworks in Redfern, Sydney, due to the escalating Covid-19 situation.

As case numbers continue to grow across Greater Sydney, the show has opted for a virtual audience watching via Zoom like last year, reports New Idea.

About 100 attendees will remotely watch the celebrity contestants perform from the comfort of their own homes.

The shift to a virtual audience comes after producers invited members of the public via Instagram to attend studio tapings.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Channel 10 for comment.

Quick changes: The change to a virtual audience is quiet the contrast to the show's Instagram post last week where the public was invited to watch in the studio

The producers’ response to Sydney’s Covid outbreak comes after The Masked Singer experienced its own Covid scare last year while filming in Melbourne.

One backing dancer tested positive and infected six other dancers, with the show’s cluster eventually growing to 16 cases.

As a result, the crew members, contestants, judges and host Osher Günsberg all had to self-isolate.

New South Wales recorded 19 cases overnight as Sydney endures its third day of lockdown.

It comes after Lindsay Lohan confirmed she would not be returning as a judge on season three of The Masked Singer due to the pandemic.

‘We couldn’t do it again due to Covid still,’ the Parent Trap star told TV Blackbox.

Lindsay is believed to have been replaced as a judge by comedian Urzila Carlson.
