The Duke of Cambridge and the Duke of Sussex reportedly had to make sudden changes to the unveiling event for their late mother’s statue. One hundred of Diana’s friends, royal aides and confidantes had originally been invited.
Among those due to celebrate Diana’s life alongside the two brothers were musician Elton John and Canadian filmmaker David Furnish.
However, due to circumstances of the coronavirus pandemic, the Princes were forced to make big changes to the plans.
The ceremony will now be attended by Harry, William and some of the Spencer relatives, according to the Daily Mail.
The adjustments are said to have “shocked” Diana’s close friends who were due to attend the ceremony in her memory.
Speaking about the “terribly sad” changes, one friend said they had hoped the event would help heal the rift between William and Harry.
A friend of the late royal told Best Life: “I was shocked at first, but it’s understandable that William and Harry would rather defer the celebration they planned rather than have a watered-down version of it.”
Another source added: “This is a terribly sad development, especially given everything that’s gone on between William and Harry over the past 18 months.
“Diana would never have wanted her sons to be estranged from each other and, as her friend, I can say that everyone who loved her wants to see them heal the rift between them.
