Princess Beatrice was snapped as she attended the film’s UK premiere with its director, Ann Hu.

An independent film, “Confetti” follows a Chinese family as they move to America after discovering their daughter has dyslexia and needs a school better equipped for her needs. It is said to show not only the issues facing a family in this situation, but also the value in the different perspectives of neurodivergent people.

This is something Beatrice is intimately familiar with after she was diagnosed with dyslexia at seven years old – but chose to see it as a blessing, rather than a curse, and has since supported charities that help dyslexic people and aimed to change the narrative surrounding it.

After having a successful US release, the film is now ready to hit UK cinemas with today’s unusual opening event featuring an NFT art collection.

Beatrice and Ann looked like great friends as they posed for photos on their way into the premiere.

The Princess is not the only royalty to be in attendance, with Queen Diambi Kabatusuila, the traditional queen of the African Bakwa Dashi tribe, also making an appearance, as well as His Highness Sheikh Hamad.

Initially, Princess Beatrice had struggled with her condition, once recalling that she had “wished it away”, but was able to receive help when navigating through education.

She explained: “I remember one of my earliest memories was sitting in front of a Beatrix Potter book and the illustrations were so beautiful, but the words meant nothing.”

The Royal has been patron of the Helen Arkell Dylexia Charity since 2013, and wrote a foreward for the charity’s book in which she said her life “could have been very different” without it.

She added she has developed a “toolkit” of skills to help her to learn better, which she continues to use over the years.

More recently Beatrice took part in a promotional video for the charity, expressing the need to “change the narrative” about dyslexia.

She said at the start of the video, which was released two years ago: “I feel like we really have a responsibility to change the narrative around what we are delivering to young people in the classroom.”

In an interview with Giovanna Fletcher, Beatrice added: “Even referring to it as a diagnosis, I feel, does a disservice to the brilliance of some of the most fantastic minds that we have… just shifting the narrative a little bit towards something that is positive, something that is impactful, can really help everyone.”

Famous people who have dyslexia include film stars Keira Knightley and Tom Cruise, as well as great historic minds such as Albert Einstein, Leonardo da Vinci and Stephen Hawking.

In a similar vein to Beatrice’s activism, “Confetti” reportedly demonstrates how having dyslexia does not make someone less “normal”

An unusual feature of the premiere is an NFT art collection depicting the main characters of the film.
