Royal fans were sent in a frenzy after Prince William visited Dockhead Fire Station in Bermondsey, South London where he spoke with first responders, London mayor Sadiq Khan and fire survivors. But it was the Duke of Cambridge’s interaction with a little girl dressed as a princess which captured the hearts of supporters as Prince William began complimenting her on her sparkly shoes and called her “very pretty”. The two began chatting about brownies with Prince William revealing they were his favourite but told the little girl he could not eat loads because it would make him sick.

Prince Wiliam was joined by responders and parents during his visit to the fire station and shared a joke with many of them.

Later on in his visit, a young girl dressed as a princess came up to the prince who then told him she was six years old.

Prince William called her “very grown-up” and “very pretty” as he complimented her outfit and sparkly shoes.

The heir to the throne then told the little girl to compliment the cake makers on their cake and brownies and to jokingly tell them off if they were not cooked right.

The young girl told William she loved brownies with the prince agreeing, stating he likes flapjacks but they are sometimes too sweet.

Prince William then pulled a face as he spoke about his love of chocolate with royal fans loving the cute interaction.

One wrote: “William always greets everyone with a lovely smile and seems genuinely interested in hearing their stories. A Lovely Caring Person.”

Another added: “William is experienced in emergency services work, so it’s wonderful to see him talking to and laughing with children as he visits this fire station. Yeah, brownies are pretty good.”

“Today, the Duke met some of the incredible people saving lives across the UK, as they were reunited with those that they saved.”

Author and publisher Andrew Lownie has now offered his thoughts about the twists and turns currently going on behind the walls of Buckingham Palace.

Speaking about the current Royal Family, he told Express.co.uk: “We’re in a period of what can be called a soft regency, in effect the Queen is standing back, not doing many roles.

“The roles that she is doing are being accompanied by Prince Charles, everyone is being prepared for Charles and Camilla.

“As a result, William and Kate, who seem to be very popular, are stepping into the position that Charles and Camilla had.

“Because they are, I would say almost more popular than Charles and Camilla, they’ve probably been given a higher role.”
