An American show which satirises the Royal Family with Prince George as the main character has split opinions as many debate whether it is right for a comedy show to involve the children of the Royal Family. Prince William and Prince Harry have deliberately chosen when to expose their children to the public as they seek to protect them from the stresses of being a royal at a young age. But some suggest another opportunity for Prince Harry and William to reunite has emerged as the princes could speak out against the programme publically together like they did with the BBC and the Princess Diana scandal.
Sunday Express editor Michael Booker appeared on GB News and looked at the trailer of “The Prince” cartoon which mocks the Royal Family including Princess Charlotte and Princes George and Louis.
Prince Harry and Meghan also feature in the show with actor Orlando Bloom providing the voice for the prince.
However, many have questioned whether it is right to involve the children of the Royal Family as other satire shows, like sitcom The Windsors, deliberately leave out the young royals.
Mr Booker discussed the show and said: “I saw that clip there and I did have a bit of a chuckle.
“But it would be an interesting experiment to see, [as they say] never explain never complain, but occasionally they do.
“Look what happened when William and Harry, it was a very serious moment, but when they made that statement about the BBC and Bashir.
“That had a cooling effect… if for instance they put something out on Instagram or if they made a statement about [the show] they could get it shut down and they have a great deal of power there.”
Prince William and Prince Harry published separate statements on the report which found journalist Martin Bashir had misled Princess Diana to win her trust for his Panorama interview.
“The Prince” will be shown on HBO and has already garnered controversy over the depiction of the Queen and other Royal Family members.
However, many have focused on the depiction of the younger royals after some say they should be off-limits.
Prince William and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, were reportedly hurt by the comments made by online trolls against Prince George during the Euro 2020 England games with Royal Editor Rob Jobson saying it was likely for the couple to remove him from the limelight in the future.
There were also concerns Kate would not share pictures of Prince George on his eighth birthday because of online trolls but the Duchess defied them and shared an image anyway.
