The Prince of Wales chose a mixture of titles for his wife’s online book club – ranging from a love letter to Romania to tales of ancient leaders of Imperial Rome – which will be featured from Monday. The Duchess of Cornwall’s Reading Room, launched in January this year, is a virtual book club that allows Camilla to share her reading list with fans.
The book club’s Instagram page (@duchessofcornwallsreadingroom) has gained a moderate following compared to the other Royal social media channels – with around 112,000 followers.
For five days, one of Charles’ book titles will be posted every day on Camilla’s Reading Room site on Instagram, with an explanation from Charles about why the five are significant to him.
His first choice, Along The Enchanted Way, was written by friend William Blacker, a writer and architectural conservationist who lives in Romania.
The Prince of Wales met Mr Blacker during a 2017 visit to Romania where he was working on preserving the country’s threatened buildings, churches and other architectural gems.
Charles has regularly holidayed in Romania and bought a property there.
His second pick is a wartime saga, The Battle Of The Atlantic by Jonathan Dimbleby, who has previously written a biography on Charles.
Another title is Lustrum, Robert Harris’s second book in the Cicero trilogy about the machinations of leading figures from imperial Rome.
Adam Zamoyski’s tome Napoleon: The Man Behind The Myth, is Charles’ fourth choice, and Travels With Myself And Another – Five Journeys From Hell, is Martha Gellhorn’s darkly funny tales of her often disastrous trips around the world.

During the event, the Duchess of Cornwall took time to host a special story time for local schoolchildren where she read classic children’s book ‘Elmer the Patchwork Elephant’.
The event came as part of her role as the Patron of the National Literacy Trust, a charity working with schools to help disadvantaged children improve and develop reading skills.
