Deidre Sanders opened up about being diagnosed with cancer on Tuesday’s instalment of Good Morning Britain during her Dear Deidre segment. The 77-year-old revealed she has to undergo surgery this weekend and issued a warning to members of the public who are 71 or older.

Deidre told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield: “They saw me that day, I talked over the phone initially.

“The nurse practitioner said maybe there is something there and I was put on the two-week cancer pathway.”

She said she was referred for a mammogram and the doctors found something called calcification which is the accumulation of calcium salts in a body tissue which “can be a sign of trouble”.

Deidre was diagnosed with breast cancer, but explained: “I feel really fortunate it’s been caught early.”

The ITV star also urged people aged over 71 years old to “please request” a mammogram.
