The This Morning duo have faced a huge backlash recently after they were accused of “queue jumping” to see Queen Elizabeth II as she was lying in state, which the pair and ITV have strongly denied. The presenters made an appearance at Thursday’s awards, which celebrate everyday people who have done heroic things, to celebrate two award winners. However, their presence sparked a divided response from viewers, with some arguing they “should be booed”.

As the pair took to the stage to present an award to two police officers who shut down a potentially catastrophic attack, social media users quickly made their feelings known.

Twitter user Sarah Milton: “Why are these two giving an award? Embarrassing #PrideofBritainAwards.”

Adrian Whitby added: “Schofield and Willoughby should be booed. #PrideofBritainAwards.”

Tony O’Neill shared: “Oh ffs no shame #PrideofBritainAwards.”

“Was someone else meant to present this award? And Phil and Holly jumped in before them? #PrideofBritainAwards,” Liam quipped.

However, others were pleased to see the This Morning hosts participating in the evening.

Charlie penned: “Yay! Phil and Holly #PrideofBritainAwards.”

Nella commented: “Holly is looking so beautiful #PrideofBritainAwards,” followed by a love heart emoji.

“But also they were considerably better armed than you were”

“Just a bit,” Leon replied. “Yeah, I mean what they had on them was scary, we didn’t know that at the time.

“We just saw the machetes and. Backup arrived, and response officers came and grabbed me and James off them.

“And I just remember saying, ‘They’ve got a pair of backpacks on them, just check those.’
