In recent weeks, Emmerdale viewers have seen Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) and Al Chapman (Michael Wildman) grow extremely close. Chas is married to village vet Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) who still has no idea she has been cheating on him for months. Chas actress Lucy has opened up to Express.co.uk about how she is dealing with her character being unpopular for being unfaithful to fan-favourite Paddy.

Lucy has starred as Chas on the ITV soap for two decades and her character’s been embroiled in some huge storylines over the years.

For the past few months, Chas has become unpopular with viewers for cheating on the loveable Paddy with Al.

Lucy addressed the backlash she has received for her character’s affair with Express.co.uk and other media.

The 45-year-old actress admitted: “People are really not liking them together.

Reflecting on being part of the affair storyline with village villain Al, Lucy revealed: “You have to suck up your own feelings sometimes and think, if that’s what my character is doing I am going to have to believe it.”

Chas has tried to call off her romance with Al on numerous occasions, but the pair keep gravitating towards one another.

The affair is especially risky as Al is her brother Cain Dingle’s (Jeff Hordley) enemy.

ITV soap spoilers have revealed Cain learns about the affair in upcoming scenes and tricks Al into meeting him in a barn.

Al is left in shock when he is greeted by Cain holding a shotgun and looking ready to fight to the death.

Al actor Michael said of his showdown with Emmerdale hard man Cain: “It’s about time. It’s been in the making for a long time, let’s get on with it.

“It’s a situation that surely has to come. They’ve had a lot of banter and have been crossing swords, but they’ve never really actually gone full pelt on things.”

Emmerdale airs on weeknights from 7.30pm on ITV.
