Cody revealed he now eats a high protein diet, in order to fuel his body before hitting the pool.

‘I start abruptly with a 5am alarm and make a wrap with peanut butter and banana,’ he said, explaining his quick breakfast.

‘That’s going to give me the sugar, protein and the carbs that I need to get through that morning practice,’ he added.

Cody said he has to be in the water by 6am, doing four hours in the pool most days. He also does 60 to 90 minutes in the gym, three times a week.

The singer said after practice he usually has a protein shake along with avocado on toast, and also tries to eat a lot of fish.

‘I love to eat fish and veggies to get healthy protein and carbs… [And] a slow-burning carb that will last me throughout the night,’ he explained.

Cody said he has upped his intake of food, eating three to four times more than he did prior to Olympic training.

‘I try to eat fairly plant-based and pescatarian. If I eat red meat or something heavy, I find the next day I won’t train as well,’ he said.

The superstar went on to say his favourite meal of all time is usually a burger and fries, and added that fries are his weakness.

Turning his attention to his body, Cody said it has changed with him putting on a lot of muscle mass due to training.

‘You have to have a certain amount of strength and power to propel yourself through the water. It’s kind of like having three kilo weights in your hands,’ he added.

‘Over the course of a few weeks you start to notice a lot more size in your upper body.’

Cody added that he is relatively sober as he commits to training, which has helped his mental focus in the pool.

'There's a certain social life sacrifice you have to make. I have to be in bed at 8pm or 9pm. This keeps you focused,' Cody said in the video

Cody went on to say that swimming is ‘cathartic’ at times, with it giving him time to just be alone in the water.

He credits swimming while growing up as giving him the discipline to succeed in other areas of his life.
