Novak Djokovic praised his opponent Denis Shapovalov after a hard-fought Wimbledon semi-final win which puts him on the verge of equalling Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’s Grand Slam record. The Canadian left the court in tears after the match.
The world No 1 was full of praise for his beaten opponent, who he overcame 7-6 (7-3), 7-5, 7-5 on Centre Court.
Shapovalov is a former Wimbledon junior champion and has made a breakthrough at this tournament.
The Canadian reached his first ever Grand Slam semi-final, although he eventually fell to defeat at SW19.
And Djokovic was impressed with how Shapovalov performed during the past two weeks.
Speaking after the match, he said: “I would like everyone to give him a big round of applause for today and also these few weeks.

And he had several other opportunities in the second set which he could not take.
Djokovic’s win over Shapovalov see’s him into a seventh final at the All England Club.
The Serb now has the chance to win a record-equalling 20th Grand Slam title.
He plays Italy’s Matteo Berrettini in Sunday’s Wimbledon final.
