GB News reporter Tom Harwood spoke to the GB News studio standing alongside the Gurkha army veterans who are currently on hunger strike. The Gurkhas are demonstrating against pension inequality and Mr Harwood insisted they have proclaimed they are willing to die for this cause. He explained that initially, the pension level differed for Gurkhas and UK servicemen due to the difference in cost of living between Nepal and the UK.

However, since then Gurkhas have come to live in the UK but have not been granted the increase in pension.

Speak on their resilience, Mr Harwood noted that it has been six days since those demonstrating have had anything to eat.

Mr Harwood said: “These two Gurkhas and window of a Gurkha have been striking since Saturday morning.

“They haven’t eaten at all across six days now.

“There is an enormous amount of support surrounding us, there have been come down, many veterans of the British army and people just paying their respects and support.

“The Gurkhas fought heroically for the British over the course of many decades.

“I am stood next to a banner showing the Gurkha who won Victoria Crosses and there are many of them.

“These are people who fought heroically for the British army and I think there is support from the British people for increasing the pension.”
