Nico Rosberg believes Max Verstappen and Red Bull’s behaviour over the past few races has played “into the hands of Mercedes” ahead of the summer break, as Lewis Hamilton aims for a record eighth F1 title.
Verstappen had been leading the way in the standings since the Monaco Grand Prix back in May and had since been edging forward over the seven-time world champion.
However, the championship took a new twist at the British Grand Prix, with Verstappen holding a 33-point lead coming into the weekend.
The two championship protagonists came together on the opening lap of the race, with the Dutchman hurtling towards the barriers at 180mph, crashing heavily into the tyre wall.
Hamilton, despite being handed a 10-second penalty for causing a collision, went on to win the race in front of his home crowd, leaving Verstappen barely holding on to much of a lead.
But the incident was all anyone could talk about heading into the Hungarian Grand Prix, leading to Verstappen hitting out at questions surrounding the crash in the press conference ahead of the race.
