Tielemans remained despite reported interest from Arsenal and Man United. Newcastle have now entered the race in a bid to improve their midfield.
Many expected Newcastle’s Saudi-backed owners to spend huge amounts of cash in the summer but the club made just five new signings. The £63m capture of Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad headlined business that also included the additions of Sven Botman, Nick Pope, Matt Target and Loris Karius.
Howe’s side have started the season well, although their fans will hope that their frequent draws will soon become victories. They have taken five draws from their seven games, with their solitary victory coming against Nottingham Forest on the opening day of the season.
Newcastle will likely strengthen their squad in January and a move for Tielemans will bolster Howe’s midfield options.
