Of the 14 officers investigated, two were dismissed for gross misconduct and placed on a list of people barred from working for the police, while another two resigned and several others faced disciplinary action.
The IOPC said at the time that nine were still serving with the Met.
Yesterday, a spokesperson for the force said that officers were “regularly reminded of their responsibilities when using social media”, and said that staff “should apply the same professional standards to their online communication as they would in their face-to-face, telephone or e-mail communications, whether on or off duty”.
They added: “Social media should never be used by officers or staff in a way that breaches any of the Standards of Professional Behaviour.”
