Russell has been linked with a seat at Mercedes as his three-year deal comes to an end with the Oxford-based Williams after impressing deputising for Hamilton with the reigning champions at the Sakhir GP last year.
“I am still a Williams driver, I haven’t signed any contracts beyond,” added Russell.
“Formula One is a ruthless sport, there are only enough spots for 20 drivers, and you’ve got to be on your A-game.
“You can’t be getting too carried away looking into the future, because if you start having a bad run of form, suddenly everything can change.
Meanwhile, Bottas, who now sits fifth in the standings after a fourth-place finish at Paul Ricard, says he expects contract discussions with Mercedes to start over the ‘next month or so’.
