Man Utd should listen to Gary Neville and make two new signings after Jadon Sancho move

Solskjaer would also benefit from the addition of an accomplished defensive midfielder with Premier League experience.

Nemanja Matic is ageing, Donny van de Beek’s best position remains unknown and the jury is out on whether Fred could lead Solskjaer’s men to a title from midfield.

West Ham’s Declan Rice, Brighton’s Yves Bissouma and Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi would all significantly boost Solskjaer’s squad.

The trio may command high transfer fees, but United cannot afford to drop further behind by signing players only for the future and elite quality must be prioritised for a title challenge to be realistic.

The Sancho deal is encouraging but has long been inevitable, and United must show their ambition by making progress on deals for other elite stars this summer.
