United will finally take England star Sancho from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth around an initial £73million, ending a lengthy transfer saga that spans over a year.

Sancho’s signing will elevate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side back among the contenders for the Premier League title.

The Old Trafford outfit finished runners-up to City last season but were 12 points adrift of Pep Guardiola’s side, who won a third league title in four years.

But City will inadvertently also benefit from Sancho moving to United. The 21-year-old spent two years in the academy of the Premier League champions before moving to Dortmund in 2017. They – alongside Watford – will therefore earn a percentage of the fee.

Guardiola refused to talk about transfer targets when he was last asked.

“I’m not going to answer this question right now, in the moment that we have,” Guardiola said in May.

“Not because I cannot answer you, but because it would be incredibly disrespectful to the players we have every day working.

“It’s the club working on these issues. Sometimes we have meetings in general, the ideas that we have, sometimes I share my ideas with them.

“They do their job. It’s about Txiki [Begiristain] and the players’ agents.

“When the season ends, we’ll see what happens.”

“When it’s the moment to talk about individual situations with every player, but now is not the time to talk about that – absolutely not.”

But City have a bit of extra money to play about with thanks to Sancho’s move to United, while the winger moving to Old Trafford also lessens the competition to sign Kane and Grealish too.
