United are hoping to succeed in signing Sancho but, despite intensifying their efforts to secure the player’s signature, it appears this deal still has some way to go.

Part of the reason for their reluctance to pay up may be down to the desire to bolster other areas of their squad, too.

Kieran Trippier is being eyed to compete with Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back but, with Atletico Madrid demanding £43m, any potential deal won’t come cheap.

It’ll take a minimum fee of around £60m to sign Raphael Varane from Real Madrid, though Pau Torres would be a cheaper alternative.

In midfield, West Ham and Aston Villa are likely to demand premium fees for Declan Rice and Jack Grealish.

And while Juventus may want to get Cristiano Ronaldo off the wage bill, they’d still like to bank a fee from any potential sale.
