Thursday’s instalment of Love Island took an emotional turn as Liberty Poole ended her recently rocky relationship with Jake Cornish. 

The Nando’s waitress, 21, broke down to Faye Winter, 26, and revealed: ‘I just got to be true to myself and I can’t do this’ – after believing she’d given the water engineer, 24, the ‘ick’. 

But eagle-eyed viewers took to Twitter after the teaser clip for Friday night’s episode aired, questioning if they really had split for good after noticing Liberty was wearing her bracelet, gifted by Jake when he asked her to be his girlfriend.

In the scenes that unfolded on Thursday’s show, a heartbroken Liberty told Faye: ‘I don’t want to change myself for anyone. If I’m not making him happy I don’t want to be in this relationship.’ 

The blonde beauty then voiced her worries to Jake, who she has been coupled up with since the beginning. 

Jake made her his girlfriend a few weeks ago, marking the start of their official relationship with matching magnetic bracelets.

But after a tough chat on Thursday, the pair agreed to part ways after agreeing they can’t force each other to change.

‘Recently I feel like there’s been a change of energy, I feel like I can’t do anything right,’ she admitted, before adding ‘maybe I’m just not right for you.’ 

After putting their cards on the table, Jake said: ‘Maybe it’s best we go our separate ways and do what’s right for the pair of us.’

One wrote: ‘Liberty isn’t insecure, she’s actually very secure. She knows what she wants and Jake is not it, she’s real enough to end it now rather than play fake to the finals or outside the villa.’

Another described her as ‘the best’ and ‘so genuine’, with another praising her ‘self growth and journey.’

However, in Friday night’s preview, observant fans spotted that Liberty was back wearing the bracelet following their split, sparking predictions that they may reconcile.

An observant viewer took to Twitter and wrote: ‘Waittt I know we all think Jake and Lib have decided to leave tomorrow, but isn’t this Jakes bracelet back on Liberty’s hand when the come back from their date ???’
