Love Island Australia: Ari Kumar says it was 'gut-wrenching' to watch Ryan Reid move on

Love Island Australia star Ari Kumar has opened up about her experience on the show after being dumped on Wednesday night.

In an interview with Daily Mail Australia, the 25-year-old web content publisher admitted she was ‘devastated’ to have been booted off following a vote by the male islanders, after failing to find love in the villa.

She also said it was ‘gut-wrenching’ to have to watch her original partner, Ryan Reid, move on with bombshell Lexy Thornberry in front of her face – despite the pair sharing the show’s first-ever kiss days prior.

‘When I was dumped [from the villa] I was devastated. It was a little bit unexpected, just because I have strong connections with everyone in there,’ she said.

Discussing how Ryan moved on so quickly with Lexy, she added: ‘It was definitely a new experience – usually you would just delete someone and not have to see what they’re doing on social media and all that.

‘In this case, it was almost like I had front row seats to what he was doing and who he was cracking on with. It was gut-wrenching seeing all that.

‘Eventually I had to just be honest with everyone and opened up about how I was feeling – it was just a weight off my shoulders when I told everyone I wasn’t over Ryan. 

‘It made me feel better knowing that it was never going to work with him – but I was just honest about what I was feeling.’

She also added that there’s one contestant that she doesn’t feel is being genuine – brunette bombshell, Emily Ward.

‘In this case, it was almost like – I had front row seats to what he was doing and who he was cracking on with. It was gut-wrenching seeing all that’ she said

Many have questioned whether or not Emily is actually interested in fan favourite Taku Chimwaza, after she only went back to him upon being dumped by her original love interest, AFL star Mitch Hibberd.

‘I think for her to just go back to Taku as another option, maybe show her connection with him isn’t genuine,’ Ari said.

‘Just from observation, it doesn’t seem like she’s all that interested in Taku, and it’s almost like a plan B situation. I think a lot of the people would say she’s playing it safe – although she is a lovely girl, and she has a lot of amazing qualities about her.’
