Lewis Hamilton suspects any upgrades Mercedes bring to the British Grand Prix won’t be enough to “close the gap” to Max Verstappen and Red Bull this season, as the Briton eyes up his home Grand Prix next week.

Over the last three races, Red Bull have introduced many upgrades including a new front wing, a new floor, a new rear wing, and a new power unit, all the while Mercedes have brought nothing to the races and currently trail their rivals by 44 points in the Constructors’ Championship.

After the Styrian Grand Prix, Hamilton demanded his team introduce some upgrades if they’re going to be in with a chance of continuing the battle with Red Bull.

To their credit, Mercedes responded by saying a few would be introduced over the Silverstone weekend, to try and overhaul Max Verstappen’s 32-point lead in the standings, however, the Briton doesn’t believe it’ll be enough.

“We have a little bit coming but it’s not going to close the gap enough,” said the seven-time world champion. “So we’ve got to do some more work.
