North Korea’s leader believes the animals are carrying the pathogen across the border from China, it is claimed. Officials across the country have been spotted shooting at pigeons.

They are also said to have been looking out for cats and owners who do not comply with the decree.

It comes days after the North Korean leader banned all Chinese medicines at major hospitals in the capital Pyongyang.

He issued the decree after a senior bureaucrat died suddenly. They had received a jab imported from China.

According to reports, the top official had been suffering from heart-related illnesses and high blood pressure.

He was being treated at the Pyongyang Medical College Hospital.

Mr Kim was angry upon hearing of the death of his trusted official, according to the Seoul based media outlet Daily NK.

As well as issuing an order to remove Chinese medicines from Pyongyang hospitals, the Supreme leader told researchers to stop Chinese coronavirus vaccine trials and begin producing a domestic jab.

Mr Kim also recently banned “non-socialist” hairstyles like the mullet.
