Kate and Pippa Middleton were accused of being “social climbers” and given the nickname of “the Wisteria Sisters” by those in aristocratic circles, according to a royal commentator. The sisters faced harsh claims during the Duchess of Cambridge’s early relationship with Prince William. Royally Obsessed podcast host Rachel Bowie explained the reference behind the nickname.
The Middleton family have faced similar accusations through the years. Kate, in particular, was dubbed ‘Waity Katie’ for waiting so long for a proposal.
Even after she and William reconciled for the second time, the Prince did not propose for another three years.
Vanity Fair Royal Editor Katie Nicholl claimed even Kate’s mother was concerned: “I know that it was the Christmas of 2009 when Carole was getting quite concerned. Kate was nearing 30, there was still no ring on her finger.”
She continued: “There was talk of Kate having a poster of William on her wall at her school, Marlborough College.
“That said, I have spoken to a lot of Kate’s friends who were at school with her over the years.
“Nobody remembers her having that poster.”
During her 2010 engagement interview, the now Duchess of Cambridge was asked about this rumour.
She told the BBC: “He wishes. No, I had the Levi’s guy on my wall, not a picture of William, sorry.”
