Joe Biden fielded questions from reporters in his first press conference on Afghanistan following his week off as the trouble in the country unfolded. But concerned viewers took to Twitter worried for the US head of state believing he was “not well” as he delivered a monotone preprepared speech. Mr Biden was also late to the conference and appeared to also have a pre-prepared list of reporters to call on and told one he had heard none of his allies criticise his decision to withdraw.

Writer Carmine Sabia took to Twitter after watching the press conference and was concerned about the US President.

He wrote: “I don’t care who you are, Joe Biden is not well.

“If you are watching this it is plain to see this guy is not well, this may be the worst performance I’ve ever seen.”

During his press conference, Mr Biden referred to his Secretary of Defence as “General” rather than his current title.

He also claimed he has not been criticised by any of his allies across the world despite many taking to the media to criticise the Afghanistan withdrawal.

Others also tweeted he did not look right as his handlers stood close by.

One Twitter user added: “Trump was a caricature, Biden is an ill man. I’ll take the caricature.”

US Congresswoman Elise Stefanik said: “Joe Biden is not well. Americans are in harm’s way behind enemy lines because the President of the United States is unfit for office.”

Andrew Neil said: “Biden says all Americans are getting to the airport. Then he says US forces might need to go into Kabul to get them. Both statements can’t be true.”

Senator Marsha Blackburn said: “Joe Biden said there is ‘no circumstance’ where Americans have been blocked from the Kabul airport. This is a lie. My office has received reports of Americans unable to enter the airport. We have told the State Department and nothing has been done about it.”

Decorated veteran and best-selling author Sean Parnell said: “I’m more convinced now than ever before that Joe Biden doesn’t have what it takes to handle the job of Commander in Chief. I have no confidence whatsoever in his ability lead the rescue of over 10,000 Americans who are stranded and surrounded by the enemy in Afghanistan. He’s unfit.”

Mr Biden has repeatedly come under fire for his public appearances and statements as political pundits grow concerned over his ability to govern.

During an ABC interview on Wednesday, Mr Biden wrongfully claimed no one had died around Kabul airport despite at least 12 deaths being confirmed at the time of the interview.

The US President also came under fire for claiming no allies have questioned the US’ “credibility” over the Afghan exit during Friday’s televised press conference.

Sky News’ Mark Stone said: “(Biden) said I have seen no question of our credibility. Extraordinary – just plain wrong. Openly there has been criticism in London, Paris, Berlin. Brussels in NATO. There’s deep unease in the way this operation has unfolded.”
