Celebrity fitness trainer Jillian Michaels is retracting statements she made about Lizzo’s weight last year.

The former Biggest Loser trainer, 47, found herself in hot water after she lambasted people for ‘celebrating’ Lizzo’s body, and implied that she could ‘get diabetes,’ in conversation with BuzzFeed’s AM2DM in January 2020.

But now Michaels says she was ‘wrong’ for lumping Lizzo into the dialogue surrounding weight, though she continued to stand by statements she made about obesity being ‘unhealthy’ and not something people should be ‘celebrating.’

Backtracking: Celebrity fitness trainer Jillian Michaels, 47, says she was 'wrong' for making comments about Lizzo's weight but maintained that people shouldn't be 'celebrating obesity,' on the Carlos Watson show

In a recent appearance on the Carlos Watson Show, Michaels said she wished she could’ve ‘separated’ Lizzo from the conversation, while claiming that she never even ‘brought her up’ in the first place.

‘I’ve never once actually brought her up — I would like to make that clear — she has been brought up to me, and I would like to separate her from the issue if at all possible,’ she told Watson remorsefully.

‘The first time I was asked, I should have said, ‘Let’s separate an individual from a conversation about health’ — and that is where I genuinely went wrong,’ she added.

But Michaels continued to double down on comments she had made about obesity being ‘unhealthy.’

‘That is literally the only place that I will tell you that I went wrong if the conversation is about celebrating obesity,’ she said, adding: ‘Obesity is just unhealthy. That’s it.’

And she continued to say that as an ‘expert’ in the fitness and health space she had a ‘responsibility’ to ‘tell the truth’ regardless of others’ opinions.

‘When you are an expert in a category, you have a responsibility to tell the truth — whether it makes you popular or not.’

Michaels first caused an uproar after she spoke out about people praising full-figured women like the Cuz I Love You singer and model Ashley Graham.

‘Why are we celebrating her body? Why does it matter?,’ she said. ‘Cause it isn’t gonna be awesome if she gets diabetes,’ Michaels elaborated.

After the interview went viral, celebrities and fans came to the Grammy winner’s defense.

‘She is who she is … and if you don’t get it, then you don’t get it, Whoopi Goldberg said on The View. ‘I’m thrilled that she’s a big-figured woman. I’m thrilled that she is and that she has no compunction about wearing whatever she wants to wear and she’s comfortable.’

And after taking time away from social media and processing Michaels’ comments Lizzo shared a mantra to Instagram.

Mantra: 'This is my life. I have done nothing wrong. I forgive myself for thinking I was wrong in the first place. I deserve to be happy,' she posted in response to Michaels' criticism

That same day Michaels’ issued a statement to Instagram where she tried to clarify her comments while doubling down on the ‘health consequences’ that come with obesity.

‘As I’ve stated repeatedly, we are all beautiful, worthy, and equally deserving,’ she wrote. ‘I also feel strongly that we love ourselves enough to acknowledge there are serious health consequences that come with obesity – heart disease, diabetes, cancer to name only a few. I would never wish these for ANYONE and I would hope we prioritize our health because we LOVE ourselves and our bodies.’

Despite finding herself at the mercy of social media trolls, Lizzo has continued to live unapologetically and frequently takes to her various platforms to share videos of her workouts and showcase her vegan meals.

And on Friday she shared a TikTok of her working out where she showed off her progress from regular personal training sessions. ‘The best transformations are the ones only you can see,’ she wrote.

After making lifestyle changes, the singer revealed she had lost 50 pounds but also sparked backlash for promoting a 10-day smoothie detox, prompting her to open up about it on social media.

‘I’m so proud of myself, I’m proud of my results, my sleep has improved, my hydration, my inner peace, my mental stability, my f***ing body, my f***ing skin, the whites of my eyes.

‘I feel and look like a bad bitch, and I think like, that’s it. I’m a big girl who did a smoothie detox, and I wanted to share that with you guys. I got exactly what I wanted out of it, and every big girl should do whatever the f*** they want with their bodies.’
