Staying safe! Jesinta Franklin (née Campbell) underwent a routine colonoscopy this week as a precautionary measure after her mum Valerie was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2018

Harsh reality: On Friday, Jesinta shared images of the preparation solution she took as she prepared herself for the scan and urged fans to do the same as health checks ‘could save your life’. PicoPrep is a powder that is dissolved in liquid that helps clear the bowel before a hospital visit
‘Bowel cancer risk the deadliest cancer for Australians aged 25-34.’ she added.
The mum-of-two also added that fans should listen to their bodies as everyday symptoms could be telling signs of the disease.
‘Unfortunately, Bowel Cancer Australia regularly receives feedback from younger bowel cancer patients who have initially had their signs and symptoms attributed to hemorrhoids, food intolerances, a normal part of recovery after having a baby or just a result of living a hectic lifestyle,’ she wrote.
Jesinta then went on to share some good news with fans, adding: ‘Got the all clear. So comforting to know that such a simple procedure can help keep me healthy.’

In 2018, Jesinta’s mum Valerie was diagnosed with the disease. Fortunately she had an early detection, so she went on to be cancer free.
A year after her mum’s health scare, Jesinta had her colon polyps removed after being told she inherited a ‘bowel cancer gene’.
She underwent a preventative medical procedure after doctors found the polyps during a routine colonoscopy.
‘If you remove the polyp then it can’t develop into cancer,’ Jesinta told Australian Women’s Health magazine in 2019.

Preventative measure: In 2019, Jesinta Franklin had her colon polyps removed after learning she carries the same ‘cancer gene’ as her mother Valerie
‘[Getting checked is] the one thing I can proactively do every year that will stop me from getting [bowel cancer],’ she added.
‘That’s why I’m really passionate about talking about it, because it is a preventable cancer if you do the right things and stay on top of it.’
Colon polyps are growths on the lining of the colon and rectum. They are usually not cancerous but in some cases can develop into cancer.

Slowing down: Jesinta said that watching her mother go through cancer prompted her to be more proactive about her own health and to slow down her hectic lifestyle
